Material & Product Resources: Material ConneXion

Access the database on and off campus from the NYSID Library homepage under the "Materials & Product Resources" menu or by clicking this link for Materials ConneXion.

If you are off campus you will be asked to log in using your NYSID authentication credentials (i.e., your nysid.edu email address and password).

On the Materials ConneXion website, you will want to create a personal account.  In order to create your own student/faculty account, all students need to do is use their @nysid.edu email address and the following steps:

1. Visit the website at https://www.materialconnexion.com/
2. Click “Sign In” on upper right-hand corner
3. Click “Register” at center of page
4. Fill out the registration page using your @nysid.edu email address and create a password
5. Complete any requested data on the next page.
6. You will now be fully registered to access the site!

A personal account will allow you to save materials to "Material Boards" and share materials with peers and instructors.

Searches can be further refined  based on a variety of criteria that includes performance properties, sustainability, usage, etc.

The NYSID Library maintains a subscription to Material ConneXion, an online database of advanced, innovative and sustainable materials and processes that serves as a leading resource for all disciplines of design development, including interior design, architecture, and product design.

What Can I Find on the Material ConneXion Database?

Material ConneXion maintains the world's larges subscription-based materials library with 10,000+ materials from 6,000+ manufacturers. These include polymers, carbon-based materials, glass, metals, cement-based materials as well as product information, technical specifications, application information, manufacturer and distributor contact information, material developer profiles, and material images.

How Does Material ConneXion Select Materials?

Materials are selected by a rigorous quarterly review process that relies on an independent jury of design practitioners to determine whether a new material or process is worthy of inclusion. Watch their Archived webcasts to find out more!

Does Material ConneXion Give Out Samples?

No, but full manufacturer contact information is provided for each material on their database.
