Holds

When the physical library is closed, some books may be eligible for “Hold Requests” via the Library’s online catalog, BobCat. For more information on this service, please see our guide How to Put a Book on Hold on the Library's homepage. Please note, accounts must be in good standing for this service.

Items not picked up from the hold shelves within 7 days will automatically be returned to the collection.

Scanning and Scanners

The NYSID Library maintains two color digital scanners. Students may scan images or documents from our collection onto a flash drive, the shared student drive, or to their email.

For those course textbooks without electronic equivalents, the Library staff will accommodate scanning of book chapters/sections on a limited basis according to Fair Use guidelines and available staff resources. Please ask your course instructors to submit scanning requests using this form. (Proper MLA or APA citations for the requested book chapters are preferred.)

Virtual Reference Services

LibChat

All librarians and library assistants respond to chats that come in via the “Chat Now!” feature on the Library’s website during the Library’s regular open hours. If the nature of your inquiry requires in-depth research or reference help, it may be turned into a ticket.

Tickets

If you would like to ask a question while we are not open, you may submit a ticket. We aim to respond to tickets as soon as possible, but the turnaround time may vary depending on the nature of the inquiry and the availability of Library staff. Normally, you should hear from a librarian within 48 hours, so please plan your reference questions accordingly.
