State-of-the-art scanning that's easy-to-use: KIC Bookeye overhead scanning stations are face-up scanners that save a lot of time and reduce book spine damage because they capture two face-up pages of a book with each scan and do not require the user to flip the book twice for each page. KIC analyzes each image and automatically splits it into two separate images. In addition, black edges are automatically removed and the content is straightened, producing clean, professional looking images

Step 1: Position the Cradle and Document
The KIC Bookeye 4 has movable cradles for the left and right side of books. The cradle can be left flat (i.e. at 180°) for scanning flat, unbound material, or raised to 120° for gentle handling of books or other types of bound material that flat scanners may damage.
To scan, place the book or document facing up towards the bottom of the scanner bed ( slightly above the bottom edge) so the horizontal laser guide appears about 3/4 down the page(s) to be scanned. Both pages of an open book can be scanned at once and the default is set to automatically separate "Auto Split" the pages. The ideal horizontal laser guide position is shown below.
If you need to use your finger(s) to hold the pages down, the image of your hands will be removed automatically (providing you do not place them too far into the margins), or you can crop them in the Modify Image(s) tab.
NOTE: There are 2 touch screens on the scanner.
Step 2: Copyright Notice
The main (and default) screen on KIC's "Scan" tab will have most of the basic functions required by the average user.
To begin, simply select [Scan] on the interactive touchscreen.
Answer the copyright notice/question by selecting [Accept] and the scan session will begin automatically.
Step 3: Scanning Documents
After accepting the copyright statement, the first scanned image will appear on the TFT flat screen.
If the KIC system detects that the document being scanned is a book, the system is set to automatically split "Auto Split" the left from the right pages into two different images. You may override this feature by selecting Change Settings > Single Image on the large interactive touchscreen.
A thumbnail image of each scanned page is displayed at the top of the ilarge nteractive touchscreen.
To continue scanning additional pages, touch [Scan] on the interactive touchscreen.
Repeat this step to scan additional images.
IMPORTANT: When scanning, you have TWO touchscreens to choose from to execute your selected Scan Mode. Each screen's Scan button will ONLY execute the Scan Mode selected on that screen. Pressing the Scan activation button on both screens should not be combined in one session. Similarly, the foot pedal (on the floor beneath the scan cradle) will ONLY activate the Scan Mode selected on the small touchscreen.
(1) Large interactive touchscreen for all scan commands and modes (highly recommended)
(2) Small 7" touchscreen beneath the cradle offers a choice of a scan button or foot pedal to execute the Scan Mode. Both the scan button on the small touchscreen and the foot pedal below it serve to activate ONLY the Scan Mode selected on the small touch screen and have no functionality with activating the Scan Mode selected on the large touchscreen.
Be careful to either use one or the other for executing the Scan Mode. Navigating between both the small 7" interactive touchscreen (and/or foot pedal) AND the large interactive touchscreen for the same scan session may lead to system errors.
Step 4: Saving and Sending your scans
The Save/Send options can be accessed by pressing the More Output Options or selecting the 3rd (Save/Send) tab on the interface.
EMAIL - If you do not insert a USB flash drive you will be prompted to send to an email address.
USB - To save scanned images to a USB flash drive, plug a USB flash drive into the USB port on the unit. The system will automatically detect it. Then press the [Save Images to USB Drive] button to save the images to the USB drive.
