Placing Hold Requests for NYSID Library Books

The NYSID Library is pleased to be able to offer those with a NYSID ID the added convenience of placing hold requests on books from our collection! Below you'll find easy step-by-step instructions along with information about the notification process for when your items are ready for pick up at our Circulation Desk.

Please note that hold requests are NOT available for items with a status of Non-circulating, Reserves, In Processing, Audiovisual, or for items from other consortium libraries.

Instructions

1) Access BobCat, the Library's online catalog, by CLICKING HERE or via the NYSID Library homepage under "BOOKS"

2) Search for a book by title, keyword, etc.

3) Accept the "Sign In" prompt from BobCat (you can also use the Login button on the top right corner of the BobCat screen).

4) Choose NYSID as your library affiliation and follow the login prompts.

  • Your first name will appear at top right corner of BobCat screen confirming you are logged in

5) From your list of search results, select the title you would like to request. if the book has a request option you will see a "Request Item" button.

  • Note: For titles available at multiple locations (e.g. NYSID "and other locations") you will need to first select the NYSID location BEFORE you can see the "Request Item" button. This will require an additional click before the "Request Item" button is visible.

  • If your selected item has already been requested or is currently on loan, you can STILL place a hold request! Your request will be placed in queue, and you'll receive an email notification when the item is returned to the Library.

6) Select the "REQUEST ITEM" button.

7) Select the "SEND REQUEST" button.

8) You will receive a green "ACTION SUCCEEDED" banner if the request was successful:

  • Once your hold is active, you will receive an automated email notification from NYU_and_Consortium_Libraries@nyu.edu stating "Your Library Request Has Arrived" and that the item is ready for pickup at the NYSID Library Circulation Desk.

  • Holds remain active for a period of 7 DAYS and your email will indicate in the "Notes" field the day your hold expires.

Remember:

  • Your  NYSID ID is required to borrow item(s) at the time of pickup!
  • Always check that we are open before making a trip to the Library.. The number for the Circulation Desk will be on your email notification 212-452-4169 or consult our library homepage for our current physical hours.
