How To Put a Book on Hold at the NYSID Library: Home

Placing Hold Requests for NYSID Library Books

The NYSID Library is pleased to be able to offer those with a NYSID ID the added convenience of placing hold requests on books from our collection! Below you'll find easy step-by-step instructions along with information about the notification process for when your items are ready for pick up at our Circulation Desk. 

Please note that hold requests are NOT available for items with a status of Non-circulating, Reserves, In Processing, Audiovisual, or for items from other consortium libraries.

Instructions

1) Access BobCat, the Library's online catalog, by clicking the NYSID Library homepage

2) Search for a book by title, keyword, etc in the search box, and then click "Submit" next to the box.

3) Accept the "Sign In" prompt from BobCat and use your NYSID Login button with school email and PW (you can also use the Login button on the top right corner of the BobCat screen).

    

 

4) By clicking "Request," the box will prompt you to fill out: "Terms of use, Pickup Date, and comment."

 

5) After filling out the information, click the box of "Sent Request." The message shows that "uour request was successfully placed."Select the "SEND REQUEST" button.

 

6) The final message shows that "your your request was successfully placed."

What Happens Next?

Wait for an Email Notification that your Pickup is Ready (see details below):

  • On the next day the Library is physically open, Library staff will retrieve all on-shelf requests from our collection and process the holds. 
  • Once your hold is active, you will receive an automated email notification from NYSID email.

Remember:

  • Your  NYSID ID is required to borrow item(s) at the time of pickup!
  • Always check that we are open before making a trip to the Library.. The number for the Circulation Desk will be on your email notification 212-452-4169 or consult our library homepage for our current physical hours.  
  • Email notifications will take longer to receive if a book has already been requested or is on loan. 
  • Hold requests are only available to those with a NYSID ID and are NOT available for items with a status of Non-circulating, Reserves, In Processing, Audiovisual, or for items from other consortium libraries.
