BuildingGreen: Home

BuildingGreen helps architects, designers and other sustainability professionals make their projects greener and healthier.

How to Access

Begin by going to the NYSID Library homepage.

Select “Other Resources” at the top of the homepage and then “BuildingGreen” from the dropdown menu.

Because Building Green is a subscription database, NYSID users who are physically off campus will first be asked to authenticate using their NYSID login credentials (the same credentials used to log in to the NYSID Portal) before being taken to the BuildingGreen site.

Once on the site, you'll notice that premium access is being provided by NYSID and a "Create Profile" option. Profiles must be created using a nysid.edu email and will allow you to get the most out of BuildingGreen's exciting features. undefined

Note: Once your personal profile is created, you no longer need to access BuildingGreen via the Library homepage but can log in directly on the BuildingGreen website.

Site Navigation TIp

Clicking the purple “search” icon without typing anything into the search field will lead you to BuildingGreen's site menu. This is a terrific way to see a simplified outline of content available at a glance (e.g. number of feature articles, case studies, etc.).

  • On BuildingGreen, select Product Guidance >> See Product Database >> Designer Pages and the orange “Get full access” button.
  • You will then be asked to register for Designer Pages using your nysid.edu email. To keep things simple, you can just use the same password for Designer Pages that you use for BuildingGreen.

Building Green's "Spotlight Report " features new articles every other month. Current Spotlight Reports, as well as issues of BuildingGreen's previous journal titles (The BuildingGreen Report, and Environmental Building News) dating back to 2004 are available for download here.

Continuing Education (take quizzes for CEU credits or just practice!)

Creating a BuildingGreen profile with your nysid.edu email also gives you access to earning CEU credits. Check out BuildingGreen's Knowledge Base and look for BuildingGreen articles, webcasts, and reports approved for continuing education credits through AIA, GBCI, and ILFI. As a student, CEU quizzes can also be a great way of informally testing your mastery of a given knowledge base.

Green Building Product Certifications

Building Green also offers a report on Product Certifications as well as Ecolabels. (To access the report, log into the NYSID Portal and navigate to the "Student" and then the "Library Resources" tabs. The files will be located with several other documents on the bottom right-hand side of the page, under "Building Green E-books"). This material is a useful resource for students, designers, purchasers, manufacturers, and those in the industry who are interested and motivated to gain a greater understanding of green labels as they pertain to buildings. Provided in the report are overviews of key green certifications that include multiple building product sectors as well as information on why green product certification is valuable and what green certification represents. Regulatory standard development, as well as information on working with certifications and understanding their reliability is available. Also included is a chart on how product certifications and ecolabels contribute to whole-building certifications and valuable advice on looking beyond certifications to details such as how a product works, cost, and where a product was produced.
